The College of Foreign Languages Successfully Held the 4th Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei MTI Education Alliance High-Level Forum - Online Forum of Nankai University

The “4th Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei MTI Education Alliance High-Level Forum” hosted by the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei MTI Education Alliance and the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University was held online as scheduled on December 25. With the theme of “deepening regional cooperation, maintaining integrity and innovation, and pursuing excellence”, this forum aimed to discuss how to fully mobilize regional advantages, innovate the training model of professional degree postgraduates, improve the training mechanism for the integration of production and education, improve the quality of education, and build an education system of professional degree postgraduate that is flexible and standardized, integrating production and education, of high-quality and efficient, and conforming to the rules.

Ma Hongqi, Deputy Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. Yan Guodong, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, delivered an opening speech. He welcomed the delegates and made constructive suggestions for MTI educational cooperation and seminars. Chen Fachun, President of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, made an in-depth interpretation of translation and the development of MTI education in combination with the latest draft of the subject catalogue of the Ministry of Education. Professor Wang Mingyu, Chairman of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei MTI Education Alliance and Dean of the Institute of Translation and Intercultural Communication of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, put forward a series of specific requirements for the development of the MTI Education Alliance. He encouraged the delegates to actively embrace the construction of new liberal arts, serve the country’s grand strategy, take the knowledge of foreign languages as the basis, rely on industry support and information technology to implement MTI education.

This forum had three keynote speeches. A total of 10 experts from 10 universities in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei made keynote speeches at the forum. The two keynote speeches in the morning were hosted by Li Shuangyan, Director of the MTI Center of Capital University of Economics and Business, and Wang Zhanbin, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Tianjin University of Commerce. The keynote speech in the afternoon was hosted by Wang Haoyong, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Hebei Agricultural University.

Professor Wang Lifei from Beijing Language and Culture University and Professor Wang Chuanying from the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University shared their latest research results in the field of language services.

Professor Nanfang, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Hebei Normal University, Professor Zhang Qing, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of China University of Political Science and Law, Professor Li Jing, Dean of the College of Advanced Translation, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, and Professor Shi Meifang, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Hebei University of Technology, proceeded from the characteristics of the school, introducing their features and achievements in MTI education, teaching and personnel training.

Prof. Ye Huijun, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Hebei University, Prof. Zhang Ying, Executive Dean of the China Institute of Public Policy Translation, Beijing International Studies University, and Prof. Zhang Yanling, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, Civil Aviation University of China, respectively discussed and shared the achievements of the ideological and political construction of the curriculum.

Dr. Wang Huashu from the College of Advanced Translation, Beijing Foreign Studies University, made a special report on “The Development of Translation Technology and Innovation of Language Service Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence”.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Nan Fang, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Hebei Normal University. At the closing ceremony, Hu Xinhua, Director of the Language Service Department of Intellectual Property Press, announced the winners of the Alliance’s first New Era “Talent Cup” Multilingual Translation Competition, and introduced the current status of the patent translation industry and how the intellectual property industry combines with MTI’s talent training and teaching. Li Jianxun, general manager of Beijing Cultural Trade and Language Service Base, demonstrated the results of joint talent training between enterprises and universities, and how translation education technology plays a role in MTI talent training. The representative of Hebei University, the organizer of the next high-level forum of the Alliance, issued an invitation to the participants. Finally, the secretary general of the alliance, Professor Li Jing, delivered a closing speech. This forum has come to a successful conclusion.

This forum was grand and compact, with high specifications, high efficiency and high level. Leaders’ orations and experts’ speeches followed closely the theme of “deepening regional cooperation, maintaining integrity and innovation, and pursuing excellence”. With distinctive awareness of problems and orientation, this forum was an academic feast.
