In order to learn more from the advanced methods and experience of compound talent training in first-class universities and disciplines at home and abroad, Nankai University College of Foreign Languages recently organized teachers to go to universities in Shanghai for research. From November 6th to 7th, 2018, Shidou, an Italian major teacher at the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, went to the College of Foreign Languages of East China University of Political Science and Law and the Sino-Italian College of Tongji University to conduct research work.

On November 6, 2018, the Italian professional language teacher Shidou of Nankai University College of Foreign Languages met with Xu Hao, deputy dean of the College of Foreign Languages of East China University of Political Science and Law, and Wang Haiping, director of the English Teaching and Research Section. During the talks, Teacher Wang Haiping pointed out that the College of Foreign Languages of East China University of Political Science and Law is trying to promote the "linguistic skills + legal business knowledge" compound talent training program. Taking the English undergraduate major as an example, the “English (Foreign Merchants)” project was established, which is based on the main courses of English majors, added with law and business related courses, reflecting the training characteristics of the college. In the cultivation of compound talents, Wang Haiping believes that foreign language teachers should consciously infiltrate the thinking mode of the compound profession in language teaching, and realize the deep integration of “language + compound profession” in the teaching process instead of simply adding. Vice President Xu Hao affirmed the exploration of Nankai University in the cultivation of compound talents, and hoped that the two sides will further strengthen inter-university exchanges in the future.

On November 7, 2018, Shidou met with Dr. Cheng Mo, Assistant Dean of the Sino-Italian College of Tongji University. During the talks, Dr. Cheng Mo said that the Sino-Italian College of Tongji University was founded from the first government education cooperation project between China and Italy. Since 2006, it has recruited students for the Chinese undergraduate double-degree international class, which has distinctive characteristics in the cultivation of compound talents. In terms of undergraduate training, Tongji University has three unique undergraduate dual-degree programs, namely, the electronic information engineering and mechanical design manufacturing and automation programs established in cooperation with the University of Turin, and the automation program jointly established with the University of Bologna. Dr. Cheng Mo said that in order to achieve Sino-Italian cooperation in running schools, Italian teaching plays an important role in Tongji University's Chinese students' professional curriculum plan. Students in the project class study Italian in their sophomore year and junior year, laying the foundation for the students of the senior project class. Shidou said that Tongji University's Italian teaching service, other majors in the school, has opened the wings for the internationalization of the school's dominant disciplines, and also provided a new model for the construction and development of non-universal language majors in comprehensive universities.

The Shanghai survey has achieved the expected results, strengthened the inter-school exchanges between Nankai University and Shanghai's famous universities, and we learned from each other's experience in compounding talents, which is conducive to better promoting the construction of first-class professional, first-class disciplines and first-class universities of Nankai University.
