Professor Murad Abbas of the University of Alexandria Gives Lectures to Spanish Teachers and Students

On November 1st, Professor Murad Abbas, Head of the Arabic Department of the University of Alexandria in Egypt and visiting scholar of Comptons University in Madrid, Spain, was invited to visit the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University and gave a lecture on the Spanish teachers and students. Spanish major teachers Li Xinghua, Gong Yunjie, and Arabic major teachers Dou Tianjiao and all students of 2016 participated in the event.

In the history, Arabs ruled the Iberian Peninsula for eight centuries, during which Arab culture had a profound impact on Spanish language, science and cultural life. Professor Murad Abbas is a member of the highest academic committees in Egypt, Iraq and Kuwait. He has long been committed to the comparative study of Arabic Andalus literature and Spanish literature. He has visited Spain many times and lectured there. This time he visited our college, a lecture on the topic of Garcia Lorca's Poetry and Drama was also given to Spanish students.

Professor Murad first asked the Spanish major students in our school: “Why do you want to learn Spanish?” Then the professor pointed out that Spanish is the second largest language in the world, and there are many countries in use. There hidden an extremely rich cultural treasure both in Spain and Latin America. By saying this, he encouraged students to strengthen their professional studies and share their Spanish learning experiences with their classmates.

Later, Professor Murad combined his own research field to introduce the most profound poets and playwrights of Spain in the 20th century, and the representative of the 27th generation, also known as the son of Andalusia Garcia. • Federico García Lorca. Professor Murad's language was lively and humorous, and the content was rich and comprehensive. He described Lorca's childhood experience, growth process, main works, artistic style and the sincere friendship with the painter Salvador Dalí. It inspired the students' interest in Spanish literature.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Murad and the Spanish majors of our school started on-the-spot interaction, and the students actively asked questions to Professor Murad on topics of interest. The outstanding performance of Nankai students in Spanish listening comprehension and oral expression has also been highly appreciated by Professor Murad.
