Nankai Students Achieved Great Results in the 11th Multilingual National Interpretation Contest

The 11th Multilingual National Interpretation Competition of the AEON Cup was held on October 27th at Beijing International Studies University which was co-sponsored by the China Translation Association and Beijing International Studies University. 119 contestants from universities across the country participated in the competition. Shang Yue, an undergraduate from the Russian Department of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, won the first prize of the Russian simultaneous interpretation.

The competition consisted of seven languages: Japanese, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Korean, and Arabic. The competition was divided into two parts: foreign languages -Chinese translation and Chinese-foreign languages translation. The contestants needed to perform simultaneous interpretation or alternate interpretation after listening to the recording. The competition would check the comprehensive level of the contestants from professional quality, skill application and information transmission with its contents covering politics, economy, society, culture and other aspects. With her stable performance, excellent translation and decent expression, Shang Yue had won outstanding results among the contestants from domestic universities such as Peking University, Nanjing University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Shanghai International Studies University.

Shang Yue said that her achievement was inseparable from the intensive training of the instructors. At the same time, she had always kept good habits of studying Russian. The Russian news training for half an hour before going to bed every day, the constant training of audiovisual, shorthand and translations for improvement as well as a year of study in Moscow all had made her Russian language ability improve a lot.
