The College of Foreign Languages held "An Appointment with Teacher" Talking on Poetry Creation and Self-translation

Before the holiday of May Day, An Appointment with Teacher afternoon tea event hosted by the Party Committee Postgraduate Work Department of Nankai University and sponsored by the College of Foreign Languages was held successfully. This time, professor and doctoral supervisor Wang Hongyin of the College of Foreign Languages was invited in this activity. Prof. Wang’s communication event the tutor has invited some professors and professors from the Foreign Languages Institute of Nankai University and Wang Hongyin, a doctoral tutor. This activity was themed on Poetry Creation and Self-translation and attracted participation of teachers and students from both inside and outside schools.

Professor Wang Hongyin opened the meeting with poetic concepts. “Writing is a personal thing. It needs perseverance, and it can also be continuously improved, so that we can gain achievement”, “Poetry has a relationship with the lives of our modern people. If modern people do not understand poetry, then this generation is lacking in knowledge and spirituality. Professor Wang used simple words to let us feel the infinite charm of poetry. Afterwards, he described his poetry creation process. From the initial Foam Collection to the later Poems on Dream of Red Mansions to the final re-creation of Shakespeare's Hamlet, there were many stories behind each poem that he wants to tell the reader. Listening to the stories behind these poems deepens readers' understanding of these poems. From Shaanxi, to Shanghai, finally Tianjin, life gives him a deeper understanding of poetry. Professor Wang Hongyin’s humorous lectures also brought joyful laughter to the teachers and students present from time to time.

Finally, Professor Wang Hongyin's teacher randomly selected three students on the meeting to present his monograph The Germination of Intent: Interpretation of New Poetry and The Collection of Zhu Mo's Poems. “As a language major student, we have experienced the charm of Chinese traditional culture more in the collision of Chinese and Western cultures. We like the curriculum and poetry of Professor Wang Hongyin. We will also strengthen academic capabilities, excavate the current value poetry and other Chinese classic literary works, strengthen the cultural self-confidence, and contribute own strength to create a harmonious and diverse cultural pattern.” Niu Yuexi, a 2017 graduate student who received the book, shared.
