Franco Amadei,the Cultural Counsellor in Italian Embassy in China, paid a visit to CFL and made a lecture

On December 7th, Franco Amadei, the Cultural Counsellor in Italian Embassy in China, paid a visit to CFL accompanied by Ms Wang Leilei from the Cultural Department in Italian Embassy and made a vivid lecture on linguistics for the teachers and students from the Italian major. And Professor Yan Guodong, the Dean of CFL, gave a welcome speech.

Professor Yan firstly welcomed the coming of Mr.Amadei. Then he said in his speech that the Italian major was newly opened and NKU was aimed to make the it a first class major in China. The Italian major was new but with a high starting point, so the visit of Mr.Amadei would be a great encouragement for the students of the Italian major.

Mr.Amadei said that NKU was a key comprehensive university well-known in the world, so the Italian Embassy paid much importance to the its opening of the Italian major. He also congratulated the students of the Italian major and encouraged the teachers and students by saying that students as well as teachers would had much responsibility for the first Italian class.

The lecture, titled “the Introduction to the Fundamental Linguistics of Italian”, had a rich contents including linguistics, phonology, the classification of world languages and the language pedigree. Mr. Adamei also introduced the pronunciation, grammar and lexical properties of Italian to make students have a more macro and general understanding of it by comparing it with Chinese. At the last, Mr. Amadei summarized three important points for foreign language learning: first, basic cultural knowledge as well as fundamental linguistic knowledge is needed for foreign language leaning in universities; second, don’t understand a foreign language from the perspective of one’s mother language; third, every language has its difficulties, so we need to find its breakthrough points. During the speech, Mr. Amadei gained high praise because of his fluent Chinese, vivid examples and humorous language.

After the lecture finished, Mr.Amadei had a meeting with Dean Yan and the teachers of the Italian major in which they exchanged ideas about the development program, “common and non-common” program and international cooperation. Dean Yan pointed out that the Italian major of NKU should have its own features using the discipline advantages and develop advanced compound talents. Mr. Amadei said that the Cultural Department of the Italian Embassy was willing to support the development of the Italian major of NKU and further strengthen the cooperation with it.
